Short thread on Melanie Thompson
Melanie Thompson is being featured on various videos and op-ed in support of criminalizing the sex industry. She has been through the juvenile prisons, and the orphanage system because of these laws. This system that allowed this would continue under a “nordic model”. She was picked up a sex trafficking [anti-sex work] organization and her life changed after that. She plans to use these new connections to start a sex trafficking organization of her own. As you have seen numerous times, these organizations make millions, and they barely help people. They mainly just lobby, and advertise.
Unlike Nordic countries the US doesn’t have a good social safety net if you hit rock bottom, lose business, and income. In Nordic countries there’s universal healthcare, education, housing, and other benefits. That’s why you can criminalize all parts of the sex industry (except buying supposedly), and there won’t be a huge increase in deaths.
